AS THE world awaited the results of Liberia’s December 26, presidential run-off vote, Ghana’s former President and Head of ECOWAS Observation Mission John Mahama met in Monrovia today with heads of other International observer groups to review the electoral precess.

Their preliminary assessment is that balloting took place relatively smoothly and peacefully across the country, with all the potential for credible outome. They also noted improvements compared to the first round of 10th October.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission NEC, Liberia has urged the citizens to ignore all results that did not emanate from it. It’s Chairman Jerome Korkoya said counting & tallying of results were continuing at the National Collation Centres while the release of provisional results would start later today and the final results within the next 72 hours.

  1. At the observers’ review meeting were also representatives of African Union, European Union, Carter Center, US National Democratic Institute, whose team is co-led by Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Electoral Institute Sustainable Democracy in Africa, EISA.
