Anambra Agric commissioner applauds training on cassava value chain

AFAM Mbanefo, Anambra commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, has applauded the initiative in the training on cassava value chain.

The training was being anchored by the Department of Extension, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, FMARD.

The commissioner, represented by Leo Imoka, the permanent secretary in the ministry, noted that the training would boost knowledge of the participants in cassava value chain technology.

According to him the importance attached to cassava are numerous, making the commodity essential food staple among agricultural crops.

Mbanefo affirmed that with the training, all errors inherent in planting of the commodity in the past would be corrected and youths could be fully preoccupied through the potential it would offer.

He, then, enjoined participants to take the training seriously and grab the knowledge taught so as to extend to others.

Eugen Anakwe, the acting director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, representing Karima Babangida, the director, Department of Extension, acknowledged the relevance of the training.

“This will help to increase the output of cassava for industrial use.’’

She said the training would be extended to no fewer than 350, 000 farmers across the Local Government Areas of the country.

Jude Nwankwo, the programme manager, Anambra State Agricultural Development Programme, ASADEP, applauded the giant strides of Willie Obiano in agriculture, which had boosted the economic base of the state.
