AHMED Idris, accountant general of the federation, has praised the Nigerian Army for the success so far recorded in the current fight against insurgency and has pledged the continued support and cooperation of the Treasury office under his leadership to the chief of army staff and the entire Nigerian Army.

Idris, made these remarks on February 10, during a courtesy visit to Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff in Nigeria, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja. The accountant general of the Federation seized the occasion to thank the chief of army staff for fulfilling his promises of constructing car ports, rehabilitating the car parks and landscaping the parking areas at the Office of Accountant General of the Federation during his visit to the Accountant General some time last year.  It will be recalled that the chief of army staff made the promise as part of his office’s corporate social responsibility to the OAGF.

Idris therefore extolled the sterling leadership qualities of the Chief of Army Staff which has seen the Army achieve so much within the short time of his tenure in office, describing him as a man of action who is not given to many words but a man whose accomplishments speak for him.

Commenting on the partnership between the Treasury House and the Nigerian Army as a very unique one, Idris explained that the treasury has been tacitly collaborating with the Nigerian Army by ensuring that all their duly allocated funds are promptly released, adding that this has helped the Soldiers remain in high spirits to win the war against insurgency.

While pledging the continued support of the OAGF to the Nigerian Army, the AGF called for more support from the Army to enable the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation meet up with numerous challenges facing it, especially in the area of Infrastructure at the Treasury Academy at Orozo, and building the capacity of the staff to meet with the demands of modern Public financial management.

Responding, Buratai thanked the AGF and his team for the visit. He expressed his satisfaction with the manner of prompt and timely releases of funds from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, saying that “the army has had the best of times with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in the recent times”.

General Buratai commended the AGF on the implementation of the Treasury Single Account, saying that the implementation of the policy has since improved after the initial teething problems, expressing appreciation to the Accountant General for creating special accounts for their National health insurance Scheme, NHIS and other special needs of the soldiers.

He pledged his continued support to the programmes and plans of the Office of the Accountant General of the federation.
