Explosion Rocks Onitsha, 11 Persons Injured

Onitsha, commercial nerve centre of the Anambra State, Eastern Nigeria has been rocked by an explosion on Tuesday night, May 3, although no death was recorded in the incident.

The explosion was caused by petrol which was stored in jerry cans at Everwater Staff settlement Kara on the way to Atani in Ogbaru local government area.

An official of the state government, who wishes anonymity, confirmed the story to Realnews, saying reports coming from Onitsha showed that the explosion was caused by petrol stored in jerry cans which was previously used to store fuel which exploded.

According to Ali Okechukwu, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, the victims received various degrees of burns. Rescue missions which moved into the area evacuated 11 persons, who were injured by the explosion. They were rushed to the different hospitals in Onitsha including Boromeo Hospital owned by Catholic Mission.
