Epidemics: Sokoto Govt solicits media partnership

THE Sokoto State Government has called for increased media partnership on prevention and curative measures toward containing outbreak of diseases in the state.

Inaugurating the Unguwar Wanzammai Primary Healthcare Centre, a suburb of Sokoto, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, said the government had established a Modern Outbreak Response Centre at the Sokoto Specialist Hospital.

Kakale said the centre was equipped with modern gadgets, drugs, laboratory and other necessary items with workers that would promptly respond to any epidemic.

He noted that the state had encountered severe outbreaks in the past, hence, government deemed it fit to provide a response centre that would tackle any form of disease outbreak in the state.

“The state government is investing much on routine immunisations, malaria control, HIV/AIDS, Leprosy control and control of other diseases.

“I urge residents of the state to reciprocate government’s efforts through accessing the provided medications at the health centres.

“Media partnership is imperative in curtailing diseases, thereby, I am soliciting all categories of media outfits to assist government in educating the people and creating awareness on health policies and efforts against the spread of diseases,’’ Kakale said.

He called on residents to ensure that they live in proper ventilated rooms, maintain clean environments and hygienic body condition always as well eat good foods.

The commissioner said that government had made good arrangements and adequate immunisation against meningitis, measles, poliomyelitis and other child killer diseases across the state.

He commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal on his courage and lauded the Federal Government and donor agencies support on health interventions in the state. (NAN)
