A 42-year-old sales representative, Innocent Obi, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of assorted cosmetics worth N1.3 million.
Obi, who resides at Olowora area of Ojodu-Berger in the outskirts of Lagos, is standing trial for stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in January, at No. 7B, Ogunrinde St., Olowora in Lagos State.
Nwangwu said the accused sold the cosmetics, of various brands, belonging to Ika Links Global Ltd., but failed to remit the N1.3 million being the proceeds.
“The accused sold the cosmetics and converted the money to his personal use.
“All efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to refund the money proved abortive,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted the accused bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa said the sureties must be blood relations of the accused and they should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until July 4 for mention. (NAN)
