THE Concerned Bayelsa Students, an umbrella organisation of students of the state origin in universities throughout the world have distanced themselves from ‎desperadoes seeking to discredit the administration of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.

The CBS said the “uninformed and misguided students” were being led to carry out the‎ attack on the government because of the greed of their sponsors “who are bent on distabilizing the state to fulfill their governorship ambition in 2020.”

The group in a statement by its President, Willy Aganaba‎, obtained by journalists on Thursday in Yenagoa said as patriotic Bayelsa students they are fully aware of the ongoing revolution by the government in the education sector.

According to him, Bayelsa students will not be part of any process to disrupt the peace of the state and warned those currently involved to make a u-turn in their own interest.

Aganaba chided the major sponsors of the straying students, who, it names, is a serving senator from the Central Zone who has rekindled his governorship ambition which was aborted in 2015 by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of sundry negative‎ issues.

He said, “‎While the senator may have succeeded in his plot to “buy” some students over in the name of providing scholarships, it should be stated clearly that the bulk of the student population in the state are firmly behind the restoration government.

“We are also in support ‎of the President of  the National Union of Bayelsa State Students (NUBSS), Comrade Importance Ozu who have refused to give in to pressure and blackmail to move against the Dickson-led government”.

The CBS said that the State government deserved the support of all students and all Bayelsans because even despite the harsh economic reality which is not peculiar to Bayelsa alone, the government is still trying its best in the area of education.

The organisation emphasised that presently, Bayelsa ranks among the top five states in secondary education adding that the State owned Niger Delta University (NDU) only recently had most of its courses accredited amongst other laudable developments taking place in the university.

The CBS called on students not to allow themselves to be used by disgruntled politicians to threaten the peace of the state as government is working hard to secure their future.

The organisation also asked the students to rally behind their President Comrade Ozu, saying he is in constant touch with the government to ensure that issues of Bursary and other matters as it concerns students welfare are addressed within the shortest possible time.

Speaking on the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan ‎law , the group explained that the law is to increase equitable access to higher and technical education in the state which will be done by providing interest free revolving loans to Bayelsa state indigenes studying in institutions of higher learning in the country.

“The law will also ensure constant and sustainable supply of loan to student applicants and contrary to the insinuations by some people, it will never be a burden because of the way it was structured”, the group said.
