NIGERIANS have been advised to use the upcoming Independence Day Celebration to reflect on issues in the light of National cohesion and prosperity.

The advice was given during a Holy Mass to mark the 57th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka, Anambra State.

Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka,  who gave the admonition said the country had been undergoing various challenges since 1960 that the country gained independence from Britain.

According to him, our country is passing through a phase that is marked by tension, agitation and a general sense of hopelessness and dissatisfaction.

“We believe this is as a result of years of injustice, inequality, corruption and impunity, lopsidedness in appointments to key institutions and sensitive National offices, marginalisation and unfair distribution of National resources and amenities.

“Apart from the restiveness in the Niger Delta, the Boko Haram terrorism and the frequent bloody clashes between the IPOB members and the Nigerian military is a serious matter requiring deep thoughtful consideration from all well-meaning Nigerians,” Ezeokafor noted.

He called all to allow `the light of the gospel to shine in these dark spots’ of the national life to make things better for the populace.
