NKEM Okeke, deputy governor of Anambra State, has renewed a call on Anambra State indigenes in the Diaspora to key into the `Aku luo uno concept’ to support development of the state.

The `Akuluo uno’ is a concept developed by the current government in the state through which the government had been appealing to wealthy Anambra indigenes to repatriate part of their resources to support development in the state.

They could do this through building of cottage industries in the state, which would invariably help the creation jobs for citizens of Anambra State.

Okeke made the call when the Association of Anambra Indigenes resident in Dublin, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Awka on Thursday.

While receiving the group, he expressed satisfaction that more people were beginning to heed the `Akuluo Uno’ call of the present administration.

Emphasising  the success stories of the present administration, Okeke noted that it had been the strategic partnership and engagement with the private sector had helped the process.

He urged them to take the message home and educate others on the importance of Gov. Obiano’s second term re-election.

This, he said, would enable the governor to consolidate on the gains already achieved in all sectors of the state economy.

The deputy governor, who lamented the high cost of campaigns and elections, called for adherence to the zoning formula currently in place, and re-stating that APGA remained a voice for Igbo people.

Stella Onuorah, commissioner for Culture and Diaspora Affairs, who accompanied the team, recalled the celebration of Anambra Day in Dublin, where Anambra Cultural heritage was on display.

The event featured dances, masquerade displays. It was witnessed by a huge community of enterprising Anambra people.

Earlier, Amaechi Okafor, chairman of ASA Dublin,  said they were proud to identify themselves as Anambra people.

He vowed that they would bring home their resources as a group to develop an estate that would house clinics, schools and markets in Anambra.

He confirmed that they already acquired some portions of land and would commence work by the end of the year.

While pleading for access roads to the land by the government,  Okafor pledged their support for Gov. Willie Obiano, assuring that they would do all they could to support his victory on November 18.
