MUHAMMAD Bello, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has fingered waste management, traffic indiscipline and vandalism of public utilities as the biggest challenges he is facing in administering the Federal Capital Territory.

These challenges, he noted, is giving city managers incessant headache even as they impact negatively on planning amidst scarce resources.

Bello, while receiving members of the Alumni Association of the National Institute in his office, said policy makers must come up with ideas to check societal malaise in sustaining the tempo of development in the country.

The Minister said the FCT administration has embraced a deliberate policy of  developing city infrastructure including roads, rail and water facilities to make the city more efficient and cope with its growing population. “We will soon shift emphasis to education, health and social development after appreciable success in physical infrastructure,” he explained.

Khaleel Bolaji, president of the association, described the group as “a reservoir of skilled and experienced professionals”, who are willing to contribute to the realization of the lofty developmental objectives of government at all levels. He offered a hand f co-operation to the minister and the FCT administration.

Muhammad Faruk, former Daily Times chief, advised the minister to improve on the design and erection of road direction signs in the city. He said bold and properly-placed road directions will help drivers and complement the good road network in the federal capital.
