IGWE Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, celebrated his 16th Ofala festival from October 13 to 14, at Ime Obi Eze, Onitsha at the commercial city.

Speaking at the event, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra described Ofala festival as “significant celebration that unites towns and state and showcases the Igbo rich cultural heritage.”

The governor congratulated Igwe Achebe and pledged to complete the Onitsha Library being built by the monarch within the palace.

In address, Achebe commended for his good works to the state especially in agriculture, education and the health sectors as well as in the security of lives and property.

He urged Ndi Anambra to support governor Obiano during the November 18 election.

The Obi of Onitsha, then, thanked God for his successful re-emergence from `Inye Ukwu Na Nlo’ and `Inypu Ukwu Na Nlo’ a spiritual retreat and atonement at which he prayed for the living and the dead.

Patrick Agha Mba, the transition committee chairman of Onitsha North LGA, also congratulated Achebe.

He used the opportunity to applaud Obiano as `alert governor’, who ensured that civil servants and pensioners receive their salaries as and when due unlike what obtained in some other states.

In attendance at the occasion were Mrs. Atiku-Abubakar, wife of a former vice-president, Chukwuemeka Ike of Ikelionwo; Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri; Obi Nduka of Iseleukwu and Igwe Alex Onyido of Ogidi.

Onitsha Ofala festival, like other Ofala festivals, is an annual parade of Onitsha cultural heritage heralding the majesty of Onitsha monarchy and its unique tradition.
