Implementation of open grazing prohibition law will be in phases – Gov. Ishaku

GOVERNOR Darius Ishaku on Monday said the implementation of the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law billed to take effect on Wednesday January 24, will be carried out in phases.

Briefing journalists at the end of a meeting with traditional rulers across the state which he chaired, Ishaku said the decision was taken to enable government put in place necessary measures for the smooth implementation of the law.

Ishaku who addressed journalists through his Deputy, Alhaji Haruna Manu, explained that the law was meant to protect the interest of grazers and farmers across the state as well as boost economic activities and security in the state.

“The implementation will be carried out gradually beginning with the provision of infrastructure; establishment of pilot ranches, provision of livestock clinics and training of personnel for cattle control mechanism.

“Special livestock and administrative marshals will also be put in place and sensitization workshops on the law will be carried out down to the local government level to educate both herders and farmer on the importance of the law,” he said.

The governor advised the public to shun the temptation of introducing politics and ethnic sentiments into the law, and called on all to join hands with the government in bringing peace and development to the state.

The Deputy Governor told journalists that the Traditional Rulers at the meeting expressed happiness over the decision of the government to implement the law in phases and pledged their support to the law.

According to him, the Traditional Rulers promised to mobilise their subjects to key into the law.  –   Punch
