The Peoples Democratic Party resolves at its peace meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to rally round Governor Seriake Dickson to win his re-election bid

IT was time of fence mending for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State. The meeting of the PDP and its National Committee for Bayelsa State, was held in in Yenagoa, the state capital, with a call on all aggrieved members and stakeholders in the state to close ranks and work for the re-election of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, ahead of the forthcoming governorship polls.

The meeting, which was convened at the instance of former President Goodluck Jonathan, was chaired by Bello Haliru Mohammed, acting chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT.

The meeting also resolved to rescind the suspensions and expulsions placed on some members of the PDP, who have despite the internal squabbles within its rank and file, remained in the PDP, unlike those, who defected to the opposition.

Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, at the end of the meeting, Godspower Keku, state secretary of the PDP, explained that, the decision was taken in the best interest of the party, especially with a crucial election around the corner.

Ketu said the decision to rescind the suspensions and expulsions, was taken on the request of Governor Dickson as leader of the party in the state.

He, however, pointed out that, the lifting of the suspensions was still subject to the ratification of the State working committee, which is expected to deliberate on it soon.

Keku commended them for keeping faith with the PDP, despite the pressures to defect, like a number of others, who could not resist the temptation, despite having reaped bountifully from the PDP, since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in 1999.
