PHILIP Nwafor, a reverend father and the Catholic priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Nkpor Agu, Anambra State, has tasked Christians to be agents of change in the society.

Nwafor made the appeal on February 14, during a sermon to mark the Ash Wednesday’s Holy Mass to kick-off this year’s Lenten season.

“Ash Wednesday is a day set aside in Christendom to mark the beginning of the celebration of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross of Calvary to save mankind.

“We should be agents of change in our society,’’ Nwafor said and enjoined Christians to make a covenant with God to empower them to participate fully in the Lenten season.

Taking his sermon from the book of Mathew, he called on Christians to embrace positive change in their lives.

“This is a season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We should be generous to people, especially the poor.

“We spend the 40 days and 40 nights making reparations and repentance to be fit to celebrate the Easter,’’ the priest said.
