MARCEL Igweze, the national leader of Elite Community Initiative Corps of Nigeria, ECI, has said that Anambra State would experience changes in security planning after the November 18 gubernatorial election.

Igweze, who disclosed this at the inauguration of ECI at People’s Club, Headquarter Hall, Onitsha, said: “The Elite Community Initiative Corps is neither a political party nor a religious organisation but a security outfit, which aims at contributing to the security network of the state.

“Our primary assignment is to ensure; there is peace, credible, free and fair election.’’

In the same vein, Nkemdilim Egbuna, the area commander of Awka North, ECI, in an interview, said that corps as a security outfit was registered and approved by the federal government through Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja in 2010.

She said the corps would work with the Police, DSS, NDLEA, INEC and other security agencies.

It would also be involved in peace -making among communities and ensure boundaries were clearly defined.

Egbuna said that the recent inauguration was to let Ndi Anambra to know of its existence and that priority would be to improve the security network in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address, Opara Bernard, the commandant general of the corps, noted that a number of local government executives, area commanders and state executive about to be inaugurated were evidence of first class manifestation of community security development.

Opara said that corps became necessary because of the clarion call by the president and some governors against `godfatherism’ in the political system.

He noted that they had resolved to maintain common information network with the police to facilitate free flow of information through which they could track down perpetrators of crimes in communities.

The dignitaries at the event include some of the founding fathers and facilitators — Imo State Chairman, Pastor Oku, General Superintendent of Christ Favour Charismatic Renewal Movement, the State Chief of Staff, Gerald Unegbu, South East Zonal Commandant, Isaac Oke.

They were later presented certificates of authority as well as appointment, awards and the launch of Elite Corps manual text book and album.
