Anyanwu-Akeredolu Bags Ondo State Outstanding Recognition Award

BETTY Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of the Ondo State governor, on Sunday, March 4, received the prestigious Ondo State Female Role Model Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution at the 5th Ondo State Female Role Model award-an event put together in conjunction with Heros International Magazine.

In her remark, Anyanwu-Akeredolu thanked the organisers of the programme for finding her worthy of the award while also acknowledging the need for women to rise up and be a part of decision making processes in the country.

The first lady who stressed that there was equality in gender charged parents to ensure that in the course of bringing up their children, chores were equally decided so that the boys would later in life appreciate the advancement of women.

“As women we must ask ourselves questions. We also need to change the mindset of the society about women. It is unfortunate that up till now, when a woman tries to take a lead, somebody will ask her to sit down,” she added while challenging women to rise up and be part of the processes of developing the nation.

The climax of the event was the award ceremony and the investiture of Anyanwu-Akeredolu as the matron of Heros Award.

Earlier, Jeff-Agboola Yemisi, the guest lecturer, while lauding efforts of women in nation building affirmed that the time has come when Nigeria as a country should have a female president.

Applauding the numerous works embarked upon by Anyanwu-Akeredolu, she noted that such a position was well deserved by Ondo State first lady.

She also used the opportunity to urge women to join politics so that they could lend their voice to the development of the country.

Also in attendance was Ifedayo Abegunde, the SSG, Ondo State; Solagbade Amodeni, commissioner for Regional and Urban Development; Saka Ogunleye, commissioner for Sports; Ade Adetimehin, the chairman APC, Ondo State, amongst others.

Other Awardees for the night include Jumoke Abegunde, the wife of the SSG; Lola Fagbemi, commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Margaret Atere, chairman Akure South Local Government; Morenike Alaka, chairman, Okitipupa Local Government; Olamide Akinfolarin, Ondo first female pilot; Folasade Aguda, president customary court, Ondo State, to mention few.
