EVIDENCE that youths in the country have not been abandoned has again emerged with the good news coming from Lagos Central Senatorial District of Lagos State. In a renewed effort at youth empowerment, not less than 31 young persons from the senatorial district on Tuesday, April 24, benefited from an empowerment programme packaged by Oluremi Tinubu, a senator representing the area.

The 31 beneficiaries received tricycles under the Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Scheme, YESAS, initiated by Tinubu.

The tricycles are to assist in empowering the beneficiaries to jumpstart their entrepreneurial journey and enhance their independence.

In addition, Tinubu also gave the beneficiaries of the tricycles additional N50, 000 each for registration and other formalities. Other empowerment materials like sewing machines and generators will soon be distributed under the programme.

Tajudeen Olusi, Lagos Central senatorial leader, presented the tricycles to the beneficiaries on behalf of Tinubu.

The tricycles are part of the special interventions programme of the federal government through the Sustainable Development Goals Office to assist Senators in the empowerment programmes of their constituents.

It’s in furtherance of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government programme in the area of job creation and youth empowerment. Among the flagship programmes of the government in the area of youth empowerment are ‘N Power’ and ‘Market Moni’.

Tinubu has been providing empowerment and skills acquisition programmes for youths in her constituency since her inception in the Senate in 2011, and this has been a regular and continuous exercise till date.

Such efforts are widely reported in her quarterly town hall meetings usually held at the various local governments within her senatorial districts.

Empowering them will yield further benefits for society when they grow their businesses to employ others and take adequate care of their dependants.

Speaking on her programmes of youth empowerment, Senator Tinubu said: “I have seen the positive transformation that such little effort makes in the lives of our young people. I am calling on other well-meaning people who can do something to contribute towards the upliftment of this group of people in our various communities.”
