2 docked for alleged theft of cameras, accessories worth N5.7 m

TWO men, Thomson Elijah, 48 and Timothy Echendu, 53, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing different cameras and accessories  worth N5.740 million.

The accused, who were charged with conspiracy and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Insp Christopher John alleged that the defendants stole different cameras with accessories valued at N5.7 million, property of the complainant, Mr Harold Ogwu.

John told the court that the defendants committed the offences, with others still at large, on April 17 at about 6.30 p.m. at No. 44 Adebisi Awoshoga St., Dopemu, Lagos.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendants stole one Canon SD IV+ 24/70 worth N900,000, a Canon SD IV+ 24/105 valued at N1. 8 million, one Mavic Pro Drone of N700,000 and  two Nipon D700+ 18/140 camera worth N940, 000.

They also allegedly nicked one data video SE 500 ND valued at N600,000, one Led light 2048 worth N150,000, three Kind-Flow light of N180,000, and three Boya Mix worth N80,000.

The accused allegedly made away with  two light stand worth N10,000, one Sony SD 1000 camera valued at N100,000,  two speed light worth N80,000 and one Roland Mixer valued at N200,000, totaling N5.740 million, property of the complainant.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendants N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences violate Sections 280 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until July 15 for mention.
