TWO businessmen, Ferdinand Ordu, 35 and Ibrahim Adamu, 60 allegedly, who conspired to rob a man of his jewellery worth N15 million at gunpoint, were on Monday arraigned in Lagos.
The defendants appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, robbery and receiving stolen property.
Magistrate Mrs E. Kubeinje granted Adamu N500,000 bail with two sureties after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
She did not take the plea of the first defendant, Ordu, but directed the Police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Kubeinje ordered that Ordu should be kept in the Kirikiri correctional centre pending the DPP’s advice.
At the hearing, the Prosecutor, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 3, and June 5, at Okesuna Street, Lagos Island.
He said that Ordu armed himself with a gun, robbed one Mr Mide Brat of his gold wristwatch of N15 million and he later sold the stolen item to Adamu.
“Ordu attacked the complainant with a gun and forcefully collected his valuable. Adamu bought the stolen jewellery from Ordu. Both defendants were later apprehended,’’ Ogunleye told the court.
The offences, the prosecutor added, violate sections 299, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 299 attracts not less than 21 years imprisonment for robbery while section 328 stipulates 14 years term for receiving stolen property.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 9, for mention. (NAN)
