A dispatch rider, Christian Ferdinand, and a security guard, Nasiru Muhammed, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle, worth N345,000.

Ferdinand, 26, and Muhammed, 31, who both reside at  Oregun in Ikeja Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing from their employer.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 8 at Magodo, Lagos.

Ayorinde said that the defendants stole a keystone motorcycle with registration number SMK 837QH, property of a company, Whitestones Logistics.

“They absconded with the motorcycle.
When they were eventually apprehended, they could not give account of the motorcycle and were handed over to the police.”

Ayorinde said that the offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287(7) stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer while Section 411 prescribes two years for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Olayinka, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Olayinka said that all the sureties should be gainfully employed and also show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 20 for mention. (NAN)
