CIVIL Liberties Organization CLO Anambra State has praised and extolled patriotic and peaceful dispositions of Anambrarians during the February 25th presidential election.

It is democracy in action that for the first time in history of elections in the country, this is the first time near eighty percent of the electorate with enthusiasm indicated patriotic and selfless interest to participate in the electoral process.

Unfortunately and most despicable that efforts were truncated by unpreparedness and deliberate efforts to frustrates and defranching southeast voters by INEC officials.

Recall that International for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law has raised an alarm over desperate and deliberate attempt by compromised INEC to sabotage elections in southeast , South South and other stronghold of Labour Party presidential candidate Mr.Peter Obi,but it were ignored.

The actions of INEC has given credence to postulation of InterSociety.

In various local governments we visited in the our patriotic duty of observing the elections especially Onitsha North and South,Ekwusigo, Ogbaru, Idemili North and South, Aguata,Oyi,Ayamelum and others electoral officials arrived between 12noon and 1pm while voting started by 1.45 to 2pm.

It is most pathetic, painful and saddening that nearly fifty percent of voters did not vote as INEC officials told them that voting period has elapsed and to enable them upload the results of the elections to INEC headquarters.

An elderly statesman Chief Mentus Onwuaso lamented how he suffered to register and collected his voter card, yet was not able to vote after wasting more than eight hours.

This is contained in post election world press briefing addressed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme flanked by the Secretary Chidi Mbah, Damian Oguike, CY Okpala, Hyginus Udensi and others themed, nearly fifty percent of Anambra electorate defranchised call on INEC to conduct supplementary elections in those areas and add it to result generated earlier because when they started counting the votes nearly fifty percent of those that came to vote did not vote due to time constraints and lateness of INEC officials.

The attitude of INEC officials has discouraged and demoralized people’s confidence and hope in our electoral system.

We thanks in especially way Anambra electorate for their sacrifices, patriotism, tolerance and patience during the election.

We equally appeal to INEC National Commissioner Prof.Mahmudu Yakubu to probe alleged sabotage of presidential and National Assembly elections in southeast especially Anambra State and bring perpetrators to book to act as deterrent to others.

As people’s watchdog all patriotic and selfless efforts should be made to protect, sustain and protect our democracy CLO posited.
