YOUTHS under the auspices of Citizens Observers Hub, have alleged that Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is covering his track following his conduct during the just concluded general elections.

The group, which is a nonpartisan in politics, made the allegation on Thursday in Ikeja during a World Press Conference on the 2023 General Elections.

According to the group, the actions of the electoral umpire have undermined the democratic processes of Nigeria by failing to abide by its own set rules and should be condemned.

“INEC changed the rules of the game overnight in the middle of the game,” it said.

The group, which claimed that it had officers and observers stationed across pulling units as well as 774 coordinators across all local governments areas of the federation for the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections noted that through the reports from pulling units and local government areas, and the help of its over 30 data analysts have gathered a lot of facts against the processes of the recent elections.

It also added that INEC ignored the calls of Nigerians to halt the collation of results and address some issues raised by some political party agents who obviously have evidence and went ahead to announce a winner.

Citizens Observers Hub, however, recalled that Prof. Yakubu had repeatedly assured Nigerians that votes from all pulling units shall be transmitted directly from the pulling units and that the votes of Nigerians will determine the outcome of the election.

The group therefore stated that it is not going to drag INEC to court, but it is ready to furnish any aggrieved political party who seeks their intervention, with all the evidence against the conduct of INEC.
