3 men docked over alleged theft of N2.4 million

Three men on Wednesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly breaking into a pure water factory and stealing cash of N2.4 million.

The defendants are Chinedu Okonkwo, 18, Sunday Okonkwo, 53 and Oluwadamilare Muritala, 21.

They are standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, breaking- in, stealing and receiving stolen goods. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between Sept. 11 and Sept. 25, at Inland Pure Water factory situated at No. 3 Oladipupo Street, Ketu, Lagos State.

He said that the first and second defendants broke into the factory at the above-mentioned address and stole the sum of N2.4 million.

The second defendant on Sept. 20 by 1.30 pm at Agbaje Street, Alapere, stole an iPhone, 11 promax, valued at N550, 000 property on Inland Pure Water factory.

The prosecutor said that the third defendant, Muritala on Sept. 23 at computer Village, received the sum of N70, 000 from the first defendant with the knowledge that the money was stolen.

Perezi said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287, 309, 328 (2) (b) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Daodu, granted the three defendants bail in the sum N400, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She ordered that one of the sureties must have blood relationship with the defendants. The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 25 for mention. (NAN)
