The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Special Duties and Social Enterprise, Mr Mandela Obaseki, says about 640 youths in the state will be exposed to a five-day business clinic to boost their entrepreneurship capacity.

Obaseki, who made the disclosure during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Friday, said the 640 youths were earlier exposed to a one-day training on growing small scale businesses that held in September this year.

He said the training was organised by the state’s Ministry of Wealth Creation, Cooperatives and Employment in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Office.

“The population of the state is youth based and the youth form the focus of our social enterprise initiative.

“The initiative is about linking Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to organisations with the aim of solving social problems such as unemployment and poverty.

“We have established a working relationship with PRESCO Plc to empower youths with skills on oil palm production and its value chain.

“We are currently building the capacity of youths who own micro and small businesses via exposing them to training and business clinics,” he said.

The governor’s aide said the clinic would be held before the end of the year inside the Edo Innovation Hub located in Benin, the state capital.

“The youths will be trained on access to funding opportunities, business management and how to be efficient entrepreneurs,” he said. (NAN)
