Motorcyclist steals phone from shop, gets N50, 000 bail

A 20-year-old motorcyclist, Yusuf Ige, who allegedly stole a Blackberry phone worth
N150,000 from a shop, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ige, who resides at Oshodi area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.

The accused committed the offence on March 24 at No. 5, Jacob Taiwo St., Oshodi, the Prosecutor, Police
Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court.

Eruada said the accused went to the shop of the complainant, Mrs Juliet Adebisi, under the guise of purchasing
an item and stole the phone.

“The complainant discovered that her phone was missing after the accused left the shop.

“She reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested for questioning,’’ he said.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two
sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Anifowoshe adjourned the case until April 25.
