ACOMIN seeks support of LGA chairman in delivering quality healthcare in Isoko

AS part of its nationwide efforts in addressing the challenges posed by Malaria in Nigeria, the Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition, ACOMIN, a vendor under Catholic Relief Services, CRS, paid a stakeholder advocacy visit to the Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Christian Othuke Iteire, on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Council Secretariat in Ozoro 

 

Speaking during the visit, the state officer of the programme, Austin Uwede, appreciated the council boss for receiving him and his team despite the short notice, and congratulated him on his victory at the poll and the subsequent swearing-in. 

 

While giving hints of the aim and objective of the programme, which included, conducting strategic activities in communities, PHC Centers, LGAs and all relevant stakeholders accountable for service provision and results, engaging in sustained, measurable advocacy efforts for improved state and LGA support for malaria intervention, Uwede said, having gone round the various primary healthcare centres in the state, some of the challenges being faced there include under-staffing and inadequate facilities at the various healthcare centres of which he solicited for the support of the chairman of the local government.

 

Responding, Iteire appreciated the state chapter of ACOMIN for coming to his local government, and noted that the issue of malaria is important in developing third world countries, which includes Nigeria.

 

He talked about the conduciveness of the environment, the sufficiency and availability of drugs, insecticide-treated nets, ITNs, among others that would help deal with the malaria scourge. 

 

Promising to partner with ACOMIN towards reducing the malaria burden and bringing to zero malaria-related mortality and morbidity in Isoko North Local Government Area, the chairman, said he would soon embarked on visits to all primary healthcare centres within his local government area and be abreast with the situations and challenges of the primary healthcare centres and find ways on how to address them.
