THE Adamawa government says it has started the vaccination of 27,000 women against Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) in Numan Local Government of the state.
Malam Umar Abubakar Bahuli, the State Immunization Officer, Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHDA) made this known to journalists in Yola on Tuesday.
According to Bahuli, the agency has received delivery of 29,000 doses of Anti-tetanus vaccines from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
He said the target of 27,000 women, which represented 22 per cent of the total population, would be met and exceeded by the agency.
Bahuli said the area was selected for the exercise based on the recent data released by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) due to the prevalence of the disease in the area.
He said those to be vaccinated were women of childbearing ages of between 15 to 49 years.
He caution pregnant women against unhygienic deliveries and other inimical practices capable of exposing them to the disease. (NAN)
