THE presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called on Nigerians to make use of democratic freedoms to strengthen governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adebayo in a statement on Friday said the country faced challenges including unemployment, insecurity, poverty and infrastructure gaps.

He said many Nigerians were experiencing economic hardship and called for improved government performance in key sectors such as education, healthcare and job creation.

According to him, “many Nigerians are asking questions about unemployment, access to education, healthcare and general living conditions.”

The SDP candidate also urged the protection of multiparty democracy, saying political competition remains important for accountability and national development.

He called for broader political cooperation among stakeholders, noting that efforts to address national challenges should go beyond party lines.

Adebayo also referenced provisions of the Constitution relating to social welfare and governance, stressing the need for policies that prioritise citizens’ well-being.

He said the SDP, if elected, would focus on expanding access to education, improving healthcare delivery, and creating employment opportunities.

He also pledged attention to key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, industry and infrastructure, as part of efforts to stimulate growth and reduce poverty.

On security, he called for strengthened measures to address insurgency and other forms of criminality across the country.

Adebayo said the party would field candidates for all major elective offices in the 2027 elections, including the presidency, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly positions.

He described the SDP as committed to social democracy and inclusive governance.

The convention brought together party leaders, delegates and supporters from across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that political activities are gradually increasing across parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. NAN)
