SOME residents of Ado community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Tuesday, expressed mixed feelings over the first rainfall of the year recorded in the area on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the rain began at about 7.45 p.m. on Monday evening, rain intermittently till Tuesday morning.

They who spoke with NAN, said the development was a blessing to them and they were excited over it.

Mr Emmanuel Uyah said the rain would reduce heat being experienced for a long time as well as the terrible dusty environment which had caused catarrh and cough to the people in the area.

Mrs Sarah Ekpe, a petty trader, expressed joy over the rainfall, saying that she had been experiencing dust related sickness due to the exposure to dust caused by vehicles plying the untarred road in the area.

“As you can notice, my shop is quite closed to the road and whenever vehicles or motorcycles pass, they spread the dust and that affects my health and even others who complain the same.

“I am excited as it rains because I have been seriously affected by the dust.

“Although on the other way, it will make the road muddy by making it impossible to the motorists, but I am still happy,” she said.

Mrs Tina Ahmed, a roadside food vendor, also expressed joy as the rain had reduced dust which according to her was becoming a great challenge for her business operation.

Malam Baba Ibrahim, a farmer, said he was curiously waiting for the rain to drop to start his farm work.

Ibrahim said he was now encouraged to clear his farm, to start planting maize which he said could do very well during raining season.

“As the rain has started, I strongly believe that it will sustain and I will soon clear my farm to begin with the planting of maize first before others,” Baba said.

NAN reports that the coastal regions in Nigeria like Lagos, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States among others have been recording rainfall since the beginning of 2019.

Meanwhile, in a telephone interview with Mrs Peace Okon, a teacher from Oron, Akwa Ibom, she confirmed that it had rained for three to four times in the area since the beginning of the year.
