Kofi Annan, former UN secretary general is to launch the Africa Progress Panel new report on Lights, Power, Action: Electrifying Africa and the Update of the New Deal for Energy in Africa

KOFI Annan, president of the Africa Progress Panel, APP, will  on Monday, March 13, at the African Development Bank, AfDB), headquarters in Abidjan, Cot d’ Ivoire, launch the APP’s new report on “Light, Power, Action: Electrifying Africa”.

Kofi Annan is also a leading champion of the New Deal on Energy for Africa and co-chair of the Task Force on Accelerating Implementation of the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy through the High5s.

He will be welcomed by Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank Group.

Annan will also meet with the press after the presentation to discuss among others how to overcome the energy crisis in Africa; the need to increase investment; what are the different ways to increase access to electricity in Africa (traditional or off-grid approaches, etc.; the Role of the private sector and example of the New Deal on Energy for Africa, AfDB, to rapidly increase access to energy.

The launch will provide an excellent opportunity for the bank to update the implementation of the New Deal on Energy for Africa.

The Africa Progress Panel, APP, consists of 10 distinguished individuals from the private and public sectors who advocate for equitable and sustainable development for Africa. Annan, former secretary-general of the United Nations and Nobel laureate, chairs the APP.
