THE Association of Accounting Bodies in West Africa (ABWA) is seeking the continuous support of ECOWAS towards the realization of its objectives.

The president of the Association Mr. Christian Sottie made the disclosure when he led an eleven-man ABWA delegation on a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Commission on the 20th of October, 2017.

Among the areas for which support is being sought, is the development and enhancement of a strong accountancy profession in West Africa.

Mr. Sottie declared the Association’s intention to collaborate with the ECOWAS Commission in “harmonizing economic and financial policies as well as the legal framework to enhance cross border businesses and mobility of labour”.

Expressing ABWA’s desire to also complement and support the activities of ECOWAS Commission, he noted that “the issue of poverty, lack of infrastructure and the attendant quality of life of the citizenry in the region” is something that is of mutual concern.

“We would like to partner with the Commission in achieving success with the ECOWAS Common Investment Market Initiate” He added.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Edward Singhatey, on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, re-assured the association of the Commission’s commitment to working with them saying “it will be an honour for us to help you achieve your goals”.

He emphasized the need for a Memoradum of Understanding (MoU) between The ECOWAS Commission and ABWA to form the basis for the continued cooperation.

The ECOWAS Commission’s Commissioner of Finance Mr. Kebbe Ahmed Kouroma also during the occasion expressed delight at the prospects of working with and adding value to the Accounting Association.
