Anambra Agriculture Ministry continues Distribution of Improved Seedlings to Farmers

THE Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture has started another round of distribution of improved seedlings to farmers across the 21 LGAs of the state.

The distribution is in line with the state government’s effort to raise the standard of agricultural produce as well as to ensure food sufficiency in the state.

The exercise, which kicked off on Tuesday in Anaocha LGA was on Thursday carried out in Awka South LGA Headquarters.

Leo Imoka, permanent secretary, ministry of agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, said the initiative was to eradicate poverty and hunger in the state.

It is also aimed at getting the state to key into the Federal Government Programme of “one State one Product’ initiative.

He also said that the distribution was in line UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

He, then, urged farmers to form co-operative societies in order to benefit from the exercise.

In a welcome address, Leo Nwuba,  Transition chairman, Awka South LGA, said the distribution of the farm inputs by the state government was to fulfill the promise made to them ahead of the 2017 farming season.

The chairman listed the nutritional and medicinal values of the vitamins in cassava adding that the initiative would avail the state government of the opportunity of improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
