Bello urges women, youths to venture into agriculture

WIFE of Kogi State Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello has urged women and youths in the state to venture into agriculture.

Bello made the call at the Omi Dam Rice Farmers out growers programme for Kogi youths and women at Ejiba in Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.

She said that their empowerment would not only benefit them directly, it would also help to establish sustainable socio-economic development in the state.

She admonished women and youths to make good use of the opportunity, as the governor’s quest in taking Kogi to the next level was to ensure development.

Bello said that the programme was in collaboration with the Rashida Bello Foundation, Ministry of Agriculture and Agri Integrated Services Africa Ltd., aimed at encouraging youths and women to go back to agriculture as well as developing their skills.

She also visited Owode market at Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, as part of the continuation of the door-to-door and market campaign for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

She implored the traders to come out next month and vote APC for continuity of dividends of democracy.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Ayoade said that the new direction of the administration of Gov. Yahaya Bello was its commitment to the welfare and well-being of the people.

She called on the people to come out in large number to vote APC in the forthcoming general elections.

She said that voting for APC would ensure continuity of industrialisation in the state as the Rice Mill located in Ejiba would open doors of development.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Kehinde Oloruntoba commended the good gesture of the wife of the governor to better the lot of the people by enrolling 75 youths and women in rice farming, processing and 2,000 more in the coming season.

The Managing Director of Agri Integrated Service Africa, Mr Segun Olonade expressed appreciation for the collaboration, saying that it would make his dream of getting young men and women involved in agriculture a reality.

The Spokesperson for the Rice farmers, Mr Omoleye Samuel, promised that the rice farmers would put in more efforts as a way of appreciating Bello’s good gesture.

Others present at the programme were the Administrator of Yagba West, Hon. Timi Joseph, the Elejiba of Ejiba, HRH Oba Bayode Olamojin, other royal fathers, and some top government officials, among other dignitaries. (NAN)
