Coscharis farms, Anaku to commence dry season farming

COSCHARIS Farms Limited, Anaku has completed an irrigation project that will support two cycle planting season in the rice farm.

With irrigation system that draws water supply from the Omambala River would boost the farm’s rice production during the dry season.

Coscharis Farms Ltd., is a major commercial farm in Anambra State that cultivates about three thousand hectares of land.

In a speech during the tour, Governor Willie Obiano expressed delight at progress recorded by the farm.

“Coscharis rice farm is presently running smoothly in spite of being hit badly by flood disaster last year.”

The governor noted that the farm also created a number of jobs opportunities for the people Anambra.

He, then, called on the federal government to compensate the farm over heavy losses they sustained during the flood disaster that occurred in the state.

Bharat Dhir, the general manager of the farm, said he was hopeful that the irrigation system would help to increase the farm’s rice yield to 20,000 tons this year.

“The purpose of the irrigation system is to increase our rice production capacity to 20,000 this year.

“It will also take care of dry season farming within the farm by helping us carry out two season production –rainy and dry seasons.’’

He commended Obiano for his various assistance and interventions in the farm.

In separate remarks, Victoria Ekwue and Oliji Oranyelu both from Umuezeaga, Anaku said that Anaku communities have gained a lot from the farm, especially in the area of youth employment.
