Gov. Bagudu reiterates commitment to promote fish farming

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting fish farming in the state.

Bagudu restated the government’s commitment while declaring open a programme tagged, ‘Modern Training of Fish Farming’ in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Samaila Yombe, said that arrangements have been concluded to assist fishermen and fish sellers with loan in order to improve their businesses in the state.

“The loan disbursement to fish farmers and fishermen will boost socio-economic development in the state,” he said.

Bagudu added the present administration had not only given priority to agricultural sector, but also the economic sub-sector, including fish farming, livestock and animal husbandry, which is also aimed at improving the state’s it’s internally generated revenue.

He said that modern ways and skills of fish farming would give fishermen more knowledge on how to improve their business activities.

The governor called on the participants to concentrate more on the training so as to have more knowledge about their business.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Alhaji Musa Magaji, praised the state government for its commitment to improving fish farming and making it more attractive in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kebbi Government also earmarked N1.5 billion to boost modern livestock and fishery businesses, in order to encourage farmers to export their products to international markets. (NAN)
