Speaker Suraj Adekunbi of the Ogun State House of Assembly has urged the residents of the Yewa North Local Council to take advantage of their fertile soil to engage in agriculture.

Adekunbi said this while addressing a public forum tagged: “Partnership Towards Economic Development in Yewa North,” organised by Essbeejay Development Foundation (an NGO) on Monday in Aiyetoro.

He said that this would encourage self-sufficiency in food production.

Adekunbi said that Yewa North, particularly Aiyetoro community, had the potential to attract more local and foreign investors should the people engage in agro-based trade.

He called on all relevant organizations to avail farmers from the areas how they could utilise modern farming skills and improved seedlings to check rural-urban migration.

The speaker noted that it was the duty of all, including the government, to provide support for rural women to boost their trade and grow the local economy.

Adekunbi assured them that the state legislature would continue to evolve legislations aimed at promoting massive socio-economic development, extensive industrial growth and world-class social services in the state.

Earlier, the chairman of the NGO, Mr Seye Bajomo, said that the essence of the forum was to sensitise the people on how they could grow their agro-based businesses.

Bajomo said that efforts were on by the foundation to develop value-chain businesses in the different sectors of the state economy.

He advised the farmers and traders across the state to form cooperative societies to enable them secure loans. (NAN)
