Yobe State distributes agric inputs to 2,000 households

YOBE State Government, on Friday, distributed agricultural inputs to 2,000 households in Buni-Yadi, Gujba Local Government area, to improve farming in the community.

The state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, said at the distribution ceremony that the items were procured and given to the state government by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as support to Buni Yadi community.

“The inputs are part of the UNDP’s support to the regional stabilisation programme to the insurgency-ravaged areas of the state,” he said.

Buni, represented by Dr Abubakar Iliya, the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, the governor listed the items to include millet, sorghum, maize, rice, cowpea, groundnut, fertiliser (NPK), liquid fertiliser, insecticide, herbicide and knapsack sprayer.

Buni commended the people of the community for their orderliness while receiving the items.

“The orderly manner, in which this programme is being conducted, especially in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world, is also commendable.

“I urge you to observe all necessary precautions, such as maintaining personal hygiene, frequent hand washing, social and physical distancing and the wearing of face masks in public gatherings,” he said.

In her remarks, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Mairo Amshi, urged the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use the farm inputs and always consult agricultural extension agents for advice. (NAN)
