MR Yahaya Abubakar, the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 15, has pledged to ensure a peaceful conduct of the 2023 General Elections.

A statement by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Spokesperson, Yobe Police Command, in Damaturu on Thursday, said Abubakar assumed duty in the zone on Jan. 3.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zone 15 comprises Borno and Yobe commands.

He said Abubakar had expressed his zeal and preparedness to properly co-ordinate and lead the two commands to a hitch-free 2023 General Election.

“ The AIG in his pool of policing knowledge, began to elevate and consolidate the policing strategies of the zone as he took the administrations of the zone to the highest esteem.

“ The two Commands share a lot in common in terms of terrain and sociocultural activities and will surely witness peaceful General Elections,” Abdulkarim said.

The spokesperson said Abubakar, a seasoned community policing officer, had called on all and sundry within the zone to be law-abiding and cooperate with the police before, during and after the elections.

He said the AIG, who had commenced working visit to the zone, vowed to consolidate on the gains recorded by security operatives.

On situational report in Yobe, Abdulkarim said the state had witnessed low crime rate in recent times.

He, however, said the command continued to assess and evaluate situations in the state to ensure that no stone was left unturned.

“ During the week under review, the command held a strategic meeting with DPOs, HODs and tactical commanders to review strategies and outline the risk analysis of each local government area.

“ It also overviewed the number of polling Units and collation centres across the state, thereby establishing concrete solid fortifications of every polling unit as well as the collation centres,” the spokesman said.(NAN)
