IN recognition of the strategic contributions of Ondo State to its development, Airtel Nigeria, has restated its commitment to provide quality service to its customers across the state and beyond. Segun Ogunsanya, chief executive officer and managing director, Airtel Nigeria, said the company “is committed to staying competitive in a fast-changing telecommunications world” and promised to keep its customers ahead in terms of service delivery that makes good business, social and economic sense.

According to him, the company decided to meet with its customers in the state having recognised the dual contributive role Ondo state has played in the growth of Airtel and its strategic input in the development of the Nigerian economy. “Ondo State is central to the operations of Airtel and in our quest to recreate a uniquely wholesome telecoms experience in line with our vision of becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians, we are renewing our contract with the Ondo people by empowering them to succeed in life endeavours through our innovative offerings, pocket-friendly tariffs and corporate social responsibility initiatives,” he said.

Ogunsanya further promised to deploy customers’ insights into building more robust products that would continue to give the people of Ondo state and environs the technological edge that would enable them to thrive in a changing world. He expressed delight at the gathering, saying that it would help to break down the little walls, if any, as well as strengthen connections between Airtel and its esteemed customers. He also thanked the people and government of the state, particularly Olusegun Mimiko, governor of the state, for creating an enabling environment for Airtel to thrive.

It will be recalled that barely one month ago, Airtel also hosted its customers in Kwara State, to a gala night at the Orients Restaurants GRA Ilorin. The event, which showcased performances by music and comedy acts, was graced by dignitaries across the state; top government officials, captains of industry, artistes, media professionals, Airtel corporate, prepaid and post-paid customers as well as staff of the company led by Segun Macaulay. regional operations director.

Forging Nigeria, Canada Trade Relations

NIGERIA and Canada have stepped up efforts to boost bilateral relations and opportunities between them. For this purpose, the Nigeria Canada Forum, in partnership with the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, has held the 2013 Nigeria-Canada Exchange Series. Bankole Olayele, president, NCF, said in a statement that the forum has provided a platform for stakeholders in government, business and the civil society to exchange ideas that could benefit both countries.

According to him, there is a substantial opportunity to grow trade relations and other beneficial partnerships between Nigeria and Canada. “We are excited about the 2013 Nigeria-Canada Exchange Series and look forward to promoting trade, investment, patriotism, networking and bilateral exchange of ideas between Nigeria and Canada for the benefit of both countries,” he said.

Olayele also urged Nigerians in Canada to see themselves as agents of social and economic transformation in both countries. “The 2013 exchange series provides a unique opportunity to highlight the bilateral relations between our two nations. In addition, it has helped to honour and celebrate the contributions of Nigerians and Canadians, who, through their efforts, promote trade and investment between Canada and Nigeria. Their works have also helped to develop leaders in the Nigerian-Canadian community, and also support the advancement of our pluralistic society.”

Pat Utomi, a professor of political economy and management expert, gave a keynote address on the need for true federalism and peaceful co-existence for Nigeria to take its rightful place in the comity of nations, adding that the bilateral renewal was closely tied to the diaspora.
