Coronavirus Pandemic

GOV. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State says a testing centre for COVID-19 will soon be set up in the state capital, Akure.

Akeredolu spoke with State House correspondents after a private visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The governor said his visit to the vice president was on personal bases.

He said there was a little spike in the state but efforts were being made to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as the state would be having a testing laboratory soon.

“Majorly, we are going to have, in the next week and a half, a testing laboratory in Akure, which will make testing more regular.

“So, we are making efforts to do more tests and I think our people are trying but what we have now is community transmission.

“We are trying to warn the people—wear your face mask, social distancing and co; these are what we are trying to do.’’

According to him, the vice president is his friend and colleague in the legal profession.

Akeredolu had earlier met with President Muhammadu Buhari to inform him about his re-election bid and to present Expression of Interest Form to him.

He said that he also mentioned the re-election bid to the vice president but that was not the reason for the visit.

Akeredolu said that if elected, he would be consistent in delivering democracy dividends to the people.

“What I have been doing is pleasing to the people of Ondo State; trying to industrialise the state.

“Trying to bridge the infrastructural gap that we have; what else does a government exist for; so for me; it is for continuity; we will continue the good work,’’ he said. (NAN)
