THE Anambra State Football Association has emphasised its commitment toward rejuvenating football in the state from the grassroots.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of newly inaugurated state FA, Emeka Okeke who made this known at Iyiora Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, LGA, stated that the aim of his visit was to assess football facilities in the area and to sensitise citizens on the need to go back to the grassroots and discover young and fresh talents.

“Football has changed lives, football has saved families, and football is a gateway out of poverty.

“Anambra State is home to amazing talents and we have the potential to attract foreign investments and even spectators with the right projection.

“We have started a campaign tagged, `My Anambra Football Campaign’, to sensitise our citizens on the need to go back to our local football and discover young and fresh talents,’’ he said.

Okeke said that his committee was poised toward providing the enabling environment for the development of football in the state.

He solicited the support of all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, President’s-Generals and parents, noting that the project would not be carried out by government alone.

Receiving the team, Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra West LGA, Sylvester Orji-Okafor, represented by Chukwudokwe Udevi, thanked the committee, pledging their total support to the mission.

He said that sports development at the grassroots was key to spotting talents and producing superstars for national and international events.

“As people closer to the communities, we have a role to play in terms of fishing out talents in our communities.

“We want to assure you of our support to help achieve your aims and drive the desired change in football development in Anambra,’’ he said.

President-General, Iyiora Anam community, Albert Onyekwe, thanked the team for choosing Iyiora, pledging support and total commitment to the project.

The Anambra State FA jersey was presented to the Transition Committee Chairman and pitches were marked for commencement of football practices.
