Anambra State government has said it would collaborate with the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, towards harnessing human resources members to meet the aspirations of the founding fathers of the scheme.

C Don Adinuba, Anambra State commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, said this in his office, when the leaders of NYSC Anambra paid him a courtesy visit.

Adinuba said: “NYSC represents a new Nigeria, a Nigeria of hope, National integration and unity.

“I do not think that people who pass through scheme can still remain the same, especially when you serve in an area that is not within your geo-political zone.”

The Information and Public Enlightenment commissioner stressed that the ideals that led to the establishment of the NYSC in 1973, being propagated today were indeed in tandem with the values that Governor Willie Obiano cherished so much.

He noted that some of the misgivings and prejudices against people and other parts of the country had become diminished with the spirit of NYSC.

“By the time you have gone elsewhere to live with them, to interact with them and to eat with them; you become a new person.”

Adinuba admonished them to imbibe the spirit of competitiveness for rapid development.

He said that the state government had a vision to take Anambra to greater heights and urged all parts of the country to join.

Adinuba enjoined the corps members to be tolerant in order to complement what NYSC stands for.

Earlier, Kehinde Aremu, the leader of the team and the state coordinator of NYSC said that the scheme would want to partner with the state government to spread the good work of Obiano.

“We have strength, we have the manpower, we have human resources to help spread the news of what the governor is doing,’’ he said.

Aremu noted that Anambra was the headquarters of entrepreneurship in Nigeria, and with that, “we must tackle unemployment.’’

He said that corps members posted to Anambra would go back with the spirit of Anambra, “the spirit of entrepreneurship and never to depend on government for patronage.’’

“As corps members come here, they bring out what they have and take more of Ndi Anambra’s own to their various places.”

In a vote of thanks, Chinwe Obidigbo, assistant director, Corps Welfare and Health Services, commended the commissioner for the warm reception accorded them, his sense of humour and how he gave them an insight on the administration of Obiano.
