THE Anambra State Government has presented 13 Response Squad Vehicles to the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to boost their operations in the state. This is in a bid to boosting security that took an all-time low since the #EndSARS protests.

Gov. Willie Obiano, who made the presentation, also compensated four families of the Police officers, who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protests in the state. He presented a cheque for N2 million each.

The four dead officers are CSP Joseph Akpan, ASP Agu Michael, INSP John Oche and PC Udegbulam.

At the event, which took place at the State Police Headquarters, Awka also witnessed the presentation of a cash reward of ₦250,000 to no fewer than18 injured officers as well as off-setting their hospital bills.

Gov. Obiano said that the vehicles would enable them to reach crime scenes in real time, but cautioned against misuse of the vehicles.

The governor, who directed the force to commence robust operational services, enjoined them to learn a lesson from the protests, and do away with all kinds of intimidation and violation of human rights. He urged them to improve robust patrol within some communities such as Nkpor, Upper Iweka, Okpoko, Ogidi, and the Inland Towns.

In response, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, John Abang, recounted several losses of the force during the mayhem.

“Apart from the deaths and injuries, 12 formations of the force in the state were torched, 7 Divisional Stations were vandalised, two Armoured Personnel Carriers were damaged, while 27 police vehicles along with personal and exhibit vehicles were burnt.

“The degree of carnage makes one wonder what the offence of the police could have been.’’

He, however, thanked the governor for the timely response to boost their activities in the state.
