Anambra State constructs 1,000km of roads – Gov. Obiano

GOV. Willie Obiano says his government constructed not less than 1,000 kilometres of roads of 95 road projects in six years of the administration.

The governor said this while inaugurating some completed road projects in the three Senatorial Zones in the state.

The projects include 4.3 St. Peter’s University, Achina-Onneh Road awarded in 2014; select roads in Nnewi, including the 2.4 kilometers Nnobi – Nnewi road, 2.4 kilometers Ozubulu road and 2.4 kilometer road in Oraifite.

Others are the Nengo Bridge, Nteje, the 3.2 Umueze Igboezunu – Adani Road Aguleri, commenced and completed in 2019; the 4.8 kilometers Awkuzu SARS Junction – Abube Square Nando road with a 20 meter Bridge.

The rest are 6 kilometers road, which also has seven culverts as well as the 1.2 kilometers Stamford road, Awka.

The inauguration was part of the activities to mark the governor’s six years in office.

The events were held at select roads and bridges, spread across the three senatorial districts of the state embarked on within the live of the current administration.

Gov. Obiano stressed while inaugurating the projects that his administration would not relent in constructing more agrarian roads, to boost economic activities.

Gov. Obiano emphasised that the roads would link agrarian communities, to facilitate export of goods as well as decongest various roads during festive periods.

He called on the people of Anambra state to cultivate the habit of desilting their drainages and stop burning of tires on tarred roads so as to help the durability of the surfaces.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Marcel Ifejiofor, said that the Obiano-led administration distributed road infrastructure evenly across the three senatorial districts and applauded the governor for embarking on projects with strong socio-economic importance.

The Deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke, the traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Raph Ekpe, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Right Reverend Jonas Benson praised the government for the accomplishments.
