Armenia reports ‘relative calm’ after peace deal with Azerbaijan

Armenia’s military reports that “active combat operations on the whole front line have been suspended’’, following a peace deal with neighbouring Azerbaijan.
Armenian military spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said in a statement posted on her Facebook page that “relative calm is being maintained from 6 a.m. [0200 GMT].’’
Russian peacekeeping forces are being deployed in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region in an effort to end a bloody flare-up in fighting after more than 1,000 people were reported killed in just more than a month.
Stepanyan said “deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh continues’’ using an Armenian name for the Nagorno-Karabakh region. (dpa/NAN)
