THE Nigerian Army has undertaken a 3-day tour of Anambra State to understudy the security and other measures deployed by Gov. Willie Obiano, to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

A delegation of the Armed Forces from the Command and Staff College Jaji; Jos Group 8, comprising students of Senior Course 43, visited the Gov. Obiano at the Governor’s lodge, Amawbia.

The course with the theme: “Pandemic and National Security: COVID-19 Pandemic In Perspective’’, is targeted at understanding and studying various security measures adopted for a concerned specific environment with a view to bridging identified gaps.

The students were led by Brig.-Gen. Oluwasegun Adeyomo and other senior military officers, including the Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshall, Abubakar Sadiq Imam.

Receiving the delegation, Gov. Willie Obiano said his administration adopted a Tripartite Strategy in tackling the menace, focusing on Preventive, Curative and Palliative measures.

Gov. Obiano noted that the administration would not relent in investing in the security sector, while partnering with all security agencies in a sustained manner to guarantee security of life and property of the citizens.

He explained that even before the emergence of an index case in the state, “we adopted measures we term preventive measures against the pandemic”.

“We prepared ourselves with Isolation Centres, with workers in place. We provided equipment that we used. This is the preventive aspect of it,’’ he said.

Briefing the Governor, the Team Leader, Brig.-Gen. Adeyomo, told the governor that they were in the state to particularly obtain first hand information about the strategy adopted by his government that translated into flattening of the curve within a record period in the state.

“The essence of this visit is to enable the students to study the set of activities deployed by the state government in the fight against the pandemic.

“This is to help to broaden their knowledge and understanding of Your Excellency’s efforts.

“Sir, it is on record that the positive response by the state government under your leadership was indeed what helped in flattening the curve in the state.

“This subsequently led to a giant recovery from the impact of the disease within a short space of time. This is quite commendable,” Adeyomo said.

Adeyomo noted that the efforts of the Obiano administration in this regard were what informed the choice of Anambra State for the study tour.

“We believe that the study will enable the students to draw valuable lessons in the management of the pandemic in the country,’’ he said.

According to him, at the end of the tour, the students will return to the College to analyse data collated during the tour.

“The result of the study will be made available to the Government to be used to shape the formulation of policies,’’ he added.
