Austin Akabueze, Ex-NAN chief loses mum

The death has been announced of Lolo Paulina Akuanochie Akabueze, mother of veteran journalist, Chief Austin Akabueze, who retired as sports editor in the News Agency of Nigeria. 

Lolo Akabueze was a well-known community leader in Ubakwuekwem in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra. 

She was also a renowned school teacher, headmistress and religious leader in Ihiala. 

She was honored with the prestigious award of life member of the Catholic Women Organization by the Archbishop of Onitsha.

Lolo Akubeze was also bestowed with the award of Nne-Ife – Mother of Light by St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Ubahuekwem in Ihiala.  

Akabueze, who passed away at the age of 92, is survived by nine children, 38 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. 

Among her survivors are Chief Austin Akabueze, a veteran journalist and U.S.-based business consultant.

Lolo Akabueze’s other children are Lolo Josephine Ngobili, Lolo Evangeline Okolie, who are both retired directors of the Anambra State Ministry of Education.

Others are Mrs Genevieve Ujubuonyi, a school headmistress, Ms Emmanuella Akabueze and Mrs Rosemary Akunjeli Nnajiofor, a Lagos-based businesswoman. 

Lolo Akabuze’s other children are Chief Emmanuel Eto Akabueze, an Ihiala-based businessman, Mr D.D. Akabueze, a London-based business executive and Mr Ugochukwu Sylvester Akabueze, who is based in the U.S.

Also surviving the late community leader are four daughters-in-law. 

According to the Akabueze family, funeral arrangements of their late mother will be announced later.
