Burkina Faso Govt Honours ECOWAS Youth and Honours Development Centre

THE ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre, EYSDC, has been awarded a certificate by the Ministry of Sports and Entertainment of Burkina Faso in recognition of its consistent support to the development of sports in that country.

Giving the award on the May 19, 2017 at Palais des Sports de Ouaga 2000, Ouagadougou, Tairou Bangre, minister of Sports and Entertainment, noted that the EYSDC’s financial and material support to sports development in Burkina Faso “has contributed immensely to uplifting Burkinabe sports and taking the image of our dear nation to lofty heights among nations, thereby securing for her respect at the international sporting arena.”

Receiving the award on behalf of the Centre, Francis Chuks Njoaguani, the EYSDC director, expressed delight at the recognition, noting that the gesture was an acknowledgement that the vision of having an ECOWAS of the people and integration through sports was, indeed, a reality.

The award held at the first edition of a colourful ceremony tagged Night of Sports and Entertainment Sponsors was put together by the country’s Ministry of Sports to thank and honour sports and entertainment sponsors who have invested financially in the promotion of the two sectors in Burkina Faso.

The event which was broadcast live on national television was organised under the high patronage of the prime minister and sponsored by the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Development.

Based in Ouagadougou, the EYSDC is an ECOWAS specialised agency with the mandate to initiate, develop and promote youth and sports activities across the region.

In addition to the regional activities organised by the centre across and for all member States, it also sponsors youth and sports events in Burkina Faso, to enhance the visibility of the ECOWAS in its host country.
