NBA Ikeja honours best graduating law school student

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikeja branch has honoured Naomi Ekob as the best graduating student at the 2018 Bar final examination of the Nigerian law School. Ekob was awarded a cash prize of N200,000.

She became the first recipient of the Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Scholarship for best graduating Student of the Nigerian Law School, instituted by the NBA Ikeja branch at the 15th Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture on Tuesday January 15, in Lagos.

Ekob, who is currently working as a legal assistant to a judge graduated from the Afe Babalola University, Ondo State. She graduated as the best student out of the 161 students who bagged first class degrees; and received 13 awards during her call to Bar ceremony.

While presenting the award to Ekob, Dele Oloke, the chairman, NBA Ikeja Branch, said the kind-hearted nature of Gani Fawehinmi had prompted the branch to establish the award. He said the branch will institutionalise the annual scholarship to encourage and reward academic excellence at the Nigerian Law School. “This scholarship award attracts a cash processing of N200,000 and the first of such award will be given today,” he said.

According to Oloke, some senior lawyers in the branch have promised to sponsor the first nine editions of the scholarship. “The NBA Ikeja branch, the Excellent Branch is today institutionalising what will henceforth be known as NBA Ikeja Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Scholarship for the best graduating student of the Nigerian Law School in the Bar final examination.

“This scholarship award attracts a cash price of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) and the first of such award will be given today. Interestingly, just as the award was being announced at the branch’s monthly meeting, Mr Patrick Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, undertook to fund the first to third edition of the award while Pastor Oladele Adesina, SAN, equally announced that he will fund the fourth to the sixth editions of the award.

“In following the philanthropic attributes of Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, Olukayode Enitan has also graciously announced his willingness to fund the seventh to ninth Edition of the scholarship award,” he said.
