The Beninese government has adopted new working hours in the public administration, a decision taken at the last Council of Ministers’ meeting.

From 1 January 2021, the Beninese administration will open its doors in the morning from 8 am to 12.30 pm and in the afternoon from 2 pm to 5.30 pm instead of the prevailing 3 pm to 6.30 pm period.

This reorganization follows a study initiated by the government with the aim of guaranteeing the quality of public service as well as family life and the development of state employees.

The aim of the study was to provide the State with relevant elements of appreciation, taking into account national realities and the evolution of the sub-regional and regional context.

It consisted of surveys and opinion polls and gave rise to the collection of experiences from other countries, followed by an analysis of the different scenarios recommended.

The main conclusion was that appropriate adjustment of working hours will have positive effects for the administration, as well as promoting a better family life for workers.
